Civil society organizations and Nigerian youths have urged former President Goodluck Jonathan, to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
The crowd on Wednesday stormed the Abuja office of Jonathan with placards chanting slogans calling him to return to power.
Messages on the placards read, “GEJ, if you don’t run, we quench,” “GEJ, Nigeria is dying, save it!” and “GEJ, Nigerian youths break the medicine wey dem do you.”
However, the former president did not show up despite the long hours of waiting.
According to the former Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Tom Ohikere, who spoke during the call, the group had waited for over three hours in hopes of meeting Jonathan, but he did not appear.

“Everywhere that we have visited in the course of our nationwide consultation over a period of six months, the clamor for his return to power to rescue our country has been loud and unmistakable,” he said.
Ohikere said that Jonathan remains “the only unifying force that can reverse the impending catastrophe looming over Nigeria.”
It was gathered from a reliable source that Jonathan and his aides had no prior knowledge of the visit, thereby generating confusion within his camp.

Included in the group are the Goodluck Nigeria Movement (GNM), the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation, the New Nigeria Integrity Movement (NNIM),
This call is part of the build up pressure from groups within Nigeria and the diaspora for the return of the former president to join the 2027 race.
Jonathan was yet to issue any official response to the calls as of the time of this report.
