President Bola Tinubu appears to have stepped into the current political battle between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

In a report by PUNCH, a credible source close to the Presidency said Tinubu has summoned Wike for a meeting over the rift.

The meeting which is expected to take place outside the country is a fresh intervention by president Tinubu to end the fresh impeachment process against Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

It was also disclosed that Governor Fubara left the country for France on Thursday to meet Tinubu.

The fresh crisis in Rivers State was initiated during plenary on Thursday when the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read out the notice of allegations and gross misconduct against Fubara and Odu.

Among the reason for this fresh impeachment move are the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding of funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission and refusal to obey the Supreme Court ruling on the financial autonomy of the House.

Fubara’s deputy Odu was accused of reckless and unconstitutional spending of public funds, allowing unauthorised persons to occupy offices without proper screening by the Assembly and more.
