Anambra State former governor, Peter Obi says that while he remains a committed member of the Labour Party and has campaigned for its governorship candidate, his overriding concern is for a free, fair, and credible election comes November 8.
Addressing reporters in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, Obi said that all the governorship candidates in the election are his friends and urged them to prioritize the interest of the state as they head into the poll.
“For this election, my party is Labour Party. I want a free and fair election. All the contestants are my friends. As a member of Labour Party, I am supporting our candidate, but not to the extent of vote buying because I can never buy votes.
“I cannot go to the extent of doing anything untoward for the election. I want the election to be totally free and fair. I’m not on the ballot, and I believe that all those contesting are related to me one way or the other. Let Anambra people decide who will be their governor. People should not indulge in vote buying. I’m not against any of them,” he stated.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party who also noted that he left office as governor 12 years ago, said he has no personal stake in the election and insists the people of the state must freely choose their next leader.
