AU Executive Council Meeting Slated for February in Ethiopia

The African Union has announced that the 48th Ordinary Session of its Executive Council will hold on February 11 and 12 at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This ordinary session is expected to bring together policymakers from across the continent to deliberate on critical governance, institutional and policy matters.

Outlining the importance of the meeting on Wednesday, AU described the Executive Council as a central decision-making organ within the Union.

“The Forty-Eighth (48th) Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (ExC) of the African Union (AU) will hold in February 2026. The Executive Council is one of the African Union’s principal policy organs, composed of Ministers of Foreign Affairs or other designated Ministers of AU Member States.”

The council is also responsible for preparing items for consideration by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government as well as providing details on the timing and venue of the meetings.

It will consider the report of the 51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee and deliberate on AU participation in the G20.

On media engagement and access, the AU assured that additional information would be provided ahead of the event.

“Further details on livestream arrangements and media coverage opportunities will be communicated in due course. Media practitioners are encouraged to follow the official African Union communication channels for timely updates, including information on press conferences and interview opportunities.”
