The paramount ruler, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona has joined the land of his ancestors.
The revered ruler kicked the bucket on Sunday at the ripe age of 91 at the very day former President Muhammadu Buhari also said farewell to the world.
Governor Dapo Abiodun who announced the death of the monarch described it as a huge loss to the state and the nation at large.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland. Oba Adetona joined his ancestors today, July 13, 2025 at the age of 91 leaving behind a remarkable legacy that has significantly shaped Ijebuland, Ogun State and Nigeria in general.”
According to the governor, Ijebuland under his traditional guidance experienced remarkable strides in infrastructure and community development which established him and his reign as models of progress in Ogun State and Nigeria.
Governor Abiodun maintained that his leadership did not only enhance the cultural heritage of Ijebuland with the Ojude Oba festival attaining international standards but also solidified its reputation as a thriving hub of commerce and tradition.
Ascending the throne of his ancestors in 1960, Oba Adetona was one of Nigeria’s longest reigning traditional rulers who made immense contribution to the cultural and social political development in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
Governor Dapo therefore charged the people of the state and Nigerians to see as priority, the celebration of the extraordinary life of the king and his contribution to Nigeria at last.
