Following the deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba Community of Jos North Local Government, Pateau State Government has announced a 48-hour curfew
This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap.
Ramnap said the curfew would take effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.
She further explained that the decision of government was sequel to the ugly security incident in the area that claimed many innocent lives and others with degrees of injuries.
“Following the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, today, Sunday, 29th March 2026, resulting in the loss of lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“The Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect.”
The statement further said that Governor Caleb Mutfwang who condemned the attack, vowed that those responsible would be apprehended.
On Sunday night, about 40 persons were killed by gunmen suspected to be terrorists at Angwa Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

While 27 were killed at Rukuba community in Plateau, 13 wedding guests were mowed down by the attackers in Kaduna but police in Plateau State said only 14 persons were killed in the attack.
Already, University of Jos yesterday rescheduled examinations earlier scheduled for the day and today as a result of the attack.
As well, Plateau State chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has described the deadly attack as a serious setback to the restoration of peace in the state
Narrating the event, a resident, said, “We have been seriously hit in Angwa by unknown gunmen. Six people have been confirmed dead so far and several other casualties are at the Luna Hospital by New Road. It is sad.”
Another resident said: “I was in my house at Angwa Rukuba when I heard the first gunshot. Att first, I ignored the sound, but when I heard it the second time, I came outside only to find out that it was gunmen on bikes shooting at people.”

Weeks earlier, about 20 security operatives and vigilantes were said to have lost their lives in an ambush by gunmen in Kanam Local Government Area of the state.
Meanwhile, the United States congressman, Riley Moore, has warned yesterday that continued attacks on Christians in Nigeria could affect diplomatic relations with the US.
Reacting to the killings on his X handle yesterday, Moore condemned the killing of Christians.
He described the attack as part of incident troubling pattern of violence targeting worshippers during religious observances.
As part of the United States fact-finding delegation on alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, Moore further said that such attacks had become frequent during Christian holy days.
He urged Nigerian authorities to take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
