The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025 as a public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid which is the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the declaration was made in Abuja on Wednesday 3rd, 2025 by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
According to the message, Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and globally, urging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance and compassion.
The message pointed out that these values are essential for building a united and progressive nation like Nigeria.
The Minister also called on Nigerians across every religion to use the occasion to pray for peace, security and stability of Nigeria while supporting government efforts toward national harmony and sustainable development.
“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He appealed to every citizen to remain law-abiding, be security-conscious and supportive of government policies with the aim of enhancing the well-being of all Nigerians, wishing Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid ul-Mawlid celebration.
Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar (Rabi’ al-Awwal) to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Some of the events observed during this festival are prayers, processions, lectures and offering of prayers for the peace, progress and development of Nigeria.
