Death again has visited many residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State as fresh explosion has claimed a life and left others injured on Monday morning.
Confirming the incident, Kwara State Government has described it as a disturbing development.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the explosive device detonated in a road outside the community as a vehicle passed over it.
“The IED went off as a vehicle drove over it on Monday morning.”
Ajakaye said, the explosion occurred some distance from Woro community
He said a male occupant of the vehicle died on the spot, while a woman and her child, who were also in the vehicle, were caught in the explosion.
With injuries in her body, the woman has been taken to a medical facility where she is responding to treatment.
Already, there are palpable tension across the area, with residents expressing renewed fears over their safety over protracted insecurity.
The Special Assistant on Media to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, also confirmed the explosion with many casualties.
“There was an explosion around Woro this morning which claimed lives, but the exact number of casualties is still unclear.”
