Following the heavy rainfall on Monday which caused serious havoc in a community in Delta State, the federal government has issued fresh warning on impending flood disaster in about 19 states in Nigeria.
The rain which caused Awai River to overflow thereby resulting into serious flood that ravaged the Awai Camp 74 fish farms in Asaba, has left many in despair.
Apart from washing away farms and investments worth over 30 million naira, it has also left many farmers who have invested their savings and retirement benefits into their farms devastated.
The affected farmers who are mostly retired civil servants are now crying out for help.
Similarly, recent flood disasters in Ogun, Gombe, Niger, Lagos, Plateau, Anambra, Delta and other states and communities have left many homeless.
As a result of these flood situations across the country, federal government has issued a fresh warning of heavy rainfall expected in the next five days that may activate flooding in 19 states and 76 other locations nationwide.
This was revealed in a statement released on Tuesday by the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment, urging residents and relevant stakeholders to take urgent precautionary measures.
According to the flood forecast, the affected states will witness intense rainfall from Tuesday, August 5, to Saturday, August 9, 2025, with a high likelihood of flooding and related hazards in the affected areas.
Some of the predicted areas are: Bauchi (Tafawa-Balewa, Azare, Jama’are, Kari, Misau, Jama’a); Sokoto (Sokoto, Wamakko); Borno (Biu); Akwa-Ibom (Edor, Eket, Ikom, Oron, Upenekang); Ebonyi (Abakaliki, Echara, Ezilo); Cross-River (Ogoja Edor, Obubra); Nasarawa (Keana, Keffi, Wamba); Benue (Agaku, Buruku, Gboko, Igumale, Ito, Katsina-Ala, Ugba, Vande-Ikya); Kaduna (Jaji, Kafancha, Birnin-Gwari, Zaria) and Katsina (Bindawa, Bakori, Daura, Funtua).
Others are: Kebbi (Bagudo, Birnin-Kebbi, Bunza, Gwandu, Jega, Kalgo, Kamba, Kangiwa, Shanga, Ribah, Sakaba, Saminaka, Yelwa, Gauri-Banza); Kano (Bebeji, Gezawa, Gwarzo, Kano, Karaye, Tundun-wada, Wudil, Kunchi); Niger (Kontagora, Rijau, Ringim); Plateau (Mangu); Taraba (Donga, Takum); Jigawa (Diginsa, Gumel, Dutse, Gwaram, Hadejia, Miga); Yobe (Machina, Potiskum); Zamfara (Anka); and Gombe (Bajoga).
