All seem not to be over yet in Rivers State as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has freshly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of ignoring lawmakers, thereby setting the stage for another round of crisis.
The speaker disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Thursday when he addressed news reporters.
He accused Fubara of lying that he was unable to meet with the lawmakers.
“Its important I make this clarification, first and foremost the governor lied when he said he hasn’t been able to meet with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” Amaewhule said.
At the end of the six month’s State of Emergency declared by President Tinubu, Amaewhule said Wike had called a meeting with the governor and principal officials of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara had earlier lamented that Nyesom Wike did not fulfil his promise of calling a meeting between him and the Wike-aligned lawmakers.
Fubara said on Wednesday during the inauguration of a project in the state that he was committed to peace and willing to meet all demands of the lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister
Among other things, Amaaewhule said Fubara had shown no readiness to work with the House and spending from both the 2024 and 2025 budgets without legislative approval.
According to Amaaewhule, the governor in the meeting called by Wike, told them clearly that he would not bring a budget and since September when we last met, the governor has been spending and awarding contracts to his cronies, particularly those who masterminded the burning of the Rivers House of Assembly.
