The Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, has on Sunday night announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council with Immediate effect.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro in Ado-Ekiti.

Adubiaro ordered those affected which include commissioners and Special Advisers to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior civil servant in their respective ministries, departments and agencies.

Though there was no specific reason for his action, the Governor appreciated the outgoing members of the State Executive Council for their contributions to his administration and wished them success in life.

“He also thanks the affected members of the State Executive Council and wishes them success in their future endeavours,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, some of the commissioners that retained their positions include, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Commissioner for Education and Commissioner for Works.

The Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion and the Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS were also excluded

As well, all Director General who are members of the State Executive Council are to retain their positions. They include the Director General Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD); Director General, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Project Monitoring; and Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Even without official reason given for the dissolution, political spectators believe that the upcoming gubernatorial primaries scheduled for October 2, 2025, may be part of the reasons.
