Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, officially resigned his membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), on Friday with 21 members of the State House of Assembly, 8 members of the House of Representatives all the 44 local government chairmen.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Spokesperson Sanusi Bature, in Kano on Friday.
He has officially communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Diso-Chiranchi Ward of the NNPP in Gwale Local Government Area, with the resignation taking effect from January 25, 2026.

Expressing his gratitude to the party for the platform and support extended to him since 2022, he said his decision was guided by public interest considerations and taken in good faith without bitterness.
The governor mention internal disputes and legal challenges as reasons for his resignation.
