An operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was on Thursday punctured to death by a mentally unstable man in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The suspect’s mother who raised concerns about her son that had been mental unstable for years invited civil defence officers when he recently become increasingly violent but he overpowered the civil defence officer and stabbed him with knife.
According to an eyewitness, “When the boy started misbehaving this morning, his mother invited two civil defence officers to help her chain him.
“But, it was unfortunate that the civil defence man died even though he was with a gun when the incident happened.”
The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in the state, Mr Daniel Aidamenbor, has confirmed the incident, and described it as unfortunate.
“Yes, the incident happened. It happened when our officer was attempting to take the man to a facility where he would be treated.”
Ondo State Police Relations Officer, Mr Olayinka Ayanlade, said that the officer died in the hospital while receiving treatment.
