The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man, known as Lawal Faruq, for allegedly setting his former lover, Omolola Hassan, ablaze in Ibadan.
The incident reportedly occurred at a military barracks in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Mr Zagazola Makama, who shared the incident on his X handle, said the suspect confessed that he and the victim had taken an oath never to separate.
Sources said the suspect became enraged after Hassan decided to end the affair, leading him to attack her in a fit of rage.
After the relationship broke down, things later took a violent dimension and the suspect, enraged, poured petrol on the woman and set her on fire.
Makama said, “The victim, Omolola Hassan, was reportedly doused with petrol and set on fire by the suspect, who was said to have been angered over the breakdown of their relationship.
Witnesses explained that military personnel at the barracks quickly intervened and extinguished the fire before rushing the victim to Yawiri Hospital, Akobo, for medical treatment.
Contacted on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident, saying, “Investigation is ongoing.”
