A family has been thrown into mourning after a woman called Aishatu Umar, died in severe pain at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center, Kano State after a pair of scissors was left inside her body during a surgical operation
Aishatu Umar died on Monday at about 1am, after an unbearable abdominal pain for many months after a surgery she did in September 2025.
This was disclosed to the public by a family member, Abubakar Mohammed, in a social media post with images of the deceased and the scan result showing scissors allegedly forgotten in the woman’s body after the surgery.

“She was living in Kano when she fell ill a few months ago and underwent surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center in September,” Mohammed said.
However, trouble started shortly after the surgical procedure when the deceased reportedly complained of persistent abdominal pain, leading to multiple returning visit to the hospital where the operation was performed.
According to the family, instead of investigating the cause of the pain, the hospital staff gave her pain relievers despite her worsening condition until the real situation was discovered two days before her death.

“Just two days ago, tests and scans were finally conducted, revealing that a pair of scissors had been left inside her body during the September operation, efforts were being made to perform a corrective surgery yesterday, but her time had run out, and she passed away,”” Mohammed disclosed.
Already, Mohammed has described the incident as “pure negligence” and calling on authorities to ensure justice.
“Is this not pure negligence? Truly, every soul has its appointed time, but how can professional doctors forget scissors inside a patient? This tarnishes the reputation of healthcare workers and health authorities.”
Crying for justice, the family has called on the Kano State Government, as well as relevant health regulatory bodies, to investigate the matter.
“We call on the Kano State Government to investigate and take action,” the family said. “We call on the health regulatory bodies to investigate and take action. We demand justice for Aishatu Umar.”
Reacting, in a statement released on Tuesday, Kano State Hospitals Management Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, said the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive probe to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding the matter.
