NiMet Forecasts Three-day thunderstorms, rainfall nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMet has predicted rainfall across Nigeria with thunderstorms beginning from Monday to Wednesday.

Released on Sunday in Abuja, this weather outlook predicted isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains on Monday morning over northern states like Adamawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi and Taraba states.

For the concerned states in the central region, a cloudy atmosphere with intermittent sunshine is expected on Monday morning with moderate rainfall over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and Benue.

Cloudy sky is predicted over the southern region on Monday morning with mild rains expected in Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti and Cross River states.

The northern region will see cloudy skies on Tuesday with interval of sunshine. In Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected but thunderstorms later in the day over Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba states.

For the central region, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected on Tuesday morning, with moderate rains over Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa states. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.

Over the southern region on Tuesday morning, cloudy skies with moderate rains are expected in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi and Delta states.

Cloudy skies on Wednesday with intervals of sunshine are expected over the northern region with slight chances of thunderstorms and light rain in Sokoto and Zamfara. Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in the afternoon and evening over Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Adamawa, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.

Cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected at the central region on Wednesday morning, with light rains likely in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger states but thunderstorms with moderate rains expected in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger states later in the day.

In the southern region, cloudy skies are expected on Wednesday morning with predicted moderate rains likely later in the day.

NiMet admonished farmers to avoid applying fertiliser or pesticides before rainfall to prevent nutrient leaching, motorists are urged to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and airline operators to take airport-specific weather reports for operational planning.
