A Peoples Democratic Party‘s chieftain, Eddy Olafeso, has accused those opposing the party’s national convention of working for a one-party state in Nigeria.

Olafeso disclosed this on Tuesday during his session as a guest on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.

Speaking on the Federal High Court’s order that stopped PDP from holding its national convention slated for November 15 to 16 in Ibadan, Olafeso called the decision as the climax of judicial rascality.

“The restricted convention of the 15th and 16th of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan today did not come as a shock to us. There is a group focused on ensuring they destroy the party, but good will prevail over evil,” he said.

Olafeso, a former National Vice Chairman also condemned the timing of the court’s decision, calling it an “attack on constitutional democracy.”

“It is shocking that such a ruling could come just four or five days to the programme. This is another attack on constitutional democracy that all of us — lawyers, judiciary, and civil society — must save this country from,” he said

“The restraining order from the Federal High Court today against our scheduled convention did not come as a shock to us.

Alleging that those working against the PDP had ulterior motives at weakening the opposition, he said categorically that the party would not be deterred by the ruling as plans are ongoing to hold the convention.

“No matter what they throw at us, we will use it as energy to move forward to the 15th and 16th. The convention at Ibadan will hold. We are confident in ourselves and can no longer be cowed” he said.
