A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has on Thursday order the arrest of a factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, SAN,
The order was issued by Justice U.P. Kekemeke sequel to Turaki’s failure to appear before the court in a case filed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP.
In the charge, marked FCT/HC/CR/647/25, police alleged that Turaki provided false information to them in a petition he lodged in 2022.
The file on November 15, 2025, reads: “That you, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, (SAN), ‘m’, No. 37 T.Y. Danjuma Street, Asokoro, Abuja, on or about October 5, 2022, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, gave false information to the Inspector-General of Police via a petition dated October 5, 2022.”

Earlier, police prosecutor Usman Rabiu had earlier prayed the court to activate Section 143 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and order Turaki’s arrest for repeatedly failing to appear.
Following a petition that the defendant wrote to the Chief Judge of the High Court, expressing his lack of confidence in the handling of the case, Justice K.N. Ogbonnaya, was later transferred because he declined to issue the arrest warrant before handing off the case.
Justice Kekemeke held that since the defendant have been duly served with the hearing notice, there was no justification for him not to appear.
The court therefore ordered the arrest of the defendant and his production for arraignment.

In reaction, Turaki said that his legal team had filed an appeal against the bench warrant along with an application for a stay of execution.
Speaking through his Principal Private Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Turaki’s absence from court was as a result of a sudden visit to hospital.
According to the statement, “The said petition was written in 2022, and the case emanating therefrom was charged to court today, but due to his sudden hospital visit, he was absent from court. his lawyers had filed an application seeking to quash the charge, which ordinarily would not require his presence.”
