A 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, has been arrested for raping and killing a woman, Olaseni Veronica, at Iboropa community in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The suspect who strangled the victim to death after the alleged sexual assault last week was arrested by the Ondo State Police Command on Sunday.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said in a statement that police acted on credible intelligence by tracking the deceased’s missing phone that eventually led to the arrest.
Jimoh said: “The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting to having carnal knowledge of the victim and thereafter strangling her to death.
“The command condemns this heinous and inhumane act and assures the public that justice will be diligently pursued.”
Jimoh further said that the case had been transferred to the command headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
