Pensioners under the umbrella body of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Monday staged protest over the lack of payment of their Pensions

The protesters who were led by the Chairman of the Coalition of the Federal Pensioners, Lagos Chapter, Mukaila Ogunbote were drawn from Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

The protesters expressed their grief over their unpaid 35 months pension arrears in addition to the non-payment of the N35,000 palliative promised to lessen economic hardship on them.

They appealed to federal government to act by giving them a definite time for the settlement of their entitlements because the delay in the payment has subjected them to severe hardship.

Also blaming the Finance Minister, Wale Edun, they explained that President Bola Tinubu had approved the increment last year and ordered the implementation of the rice in their pension and a minimum pension guarantee last Wednesday to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable pensioners.

Similarly, Nigerian Tribune reported that another group of federal pensioners on Monday walked into the Lagos office of the Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate (PTAD) to demand the immediate implementation of a ₦32,000 pension increase approved by President Bola Tinubu last year.
