Following the wind of defection currently blowing within the People’s Democratic Party, the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has announced his defection with 16 other lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress.

Announcing his defection and other Sixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly during plenary on Friday, the speaker attributed the reason for the defection to division within the PDP.

Amaewhule informed the lawmakers that he has officially notified the chairman of his ward of his exit from the PDP and hismembership of the APC.

Speaking during plenary, he said, “Distinguished colleagues, APC is my new party. I will do all that is needed to be done towards ensuring that the party card of the All Progressives Congress is issued to me in no time.

“But as I speak today, I am a member of the All Progressives Congress. I am happy to be a member of APC so that we can join forces with Mr President. Mr President is doing so much for this country.”

Praising President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, he said the President means well for Nigeria and had shown love to Rivers State.

He said since the internal divisions in the People’s Democratic Party has made continued staying in the party difficult, the lawmakers now have it as their duty to support President Tinubu directly from the APC.

Many Nigerians who believed that the recent political war in Rivers State was between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike and not Fubara and the lawmakers, are now waiting to see what follows this decision by the lawmakers.
