Following a thorough grilling session that lasted for hours on Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of former Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defence.
Earlier, some senators opposed a proposal to excuse the former Chief of Defence Staff and ministerial nominee from questioning.
His confirmation came a day after President Bola Tinubu sent his name to the upper chamber for consideration.
Addressing the recent kidnapping of 25 students in Maga, Kebbi State during his screening, Musa assured lawmakers that investigating the reported troop withdrawal would be his first assignment in office because according to him, Nigerian military does not shy away from duty.
“We are going to go after them fully, working together with all the security agencies and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (of government),” he said.
He said that his leadership would strengthen coordination among security institutions to confront the country’s growing security challenges.
