Sokoto Residents Leave Villages in Droves Over Bello Turji threat

Following fresh threats and warnings given by a bandits’ kingpin, Bello Turji, Residents of Tidibale, a small agrarian community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto Strae, have started leaving their homes in large numbers.

The threat came just when about five persons including a former councilor and a House of Assembly candidate, Mr Igbabe Ochi, were reportedly killed in a midnight attack on Otobi Akpa community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The latest wave of violence has made many residents to leave en masse with the growing concerns about the territorial expansion of armed groups operating across the Sokoto–Zamfara.

According to findings, the kingpin is making effort to renew relevance and recognition after a break in his activities.

However, the threat has worsened the existing security situation in Sokoto and made many rural communities to be more vulnerable.

Among those currently displaced are women, children and farmers who should be preparing for the next planting season not certain if things will ever be normal again.

Vanguard reports that many communities in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, including Shinkafi town, Katuru, Jangeru and Kanwa, are said to have entered into agreement with Turji where they promised not to confront or report his activities.
