Following the resignation of Mr Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police, President Bola Tinubu has decorated Mr. Tunji Disu as his successor at the State House, Abuja, thereby making him the head Nigeria Police Force.
The decoration which was done on Wednesday, followed a swearing-in ceremony which was witnessed by top government and security officials.
His appointment into the new office was approved by President Tinubu on Tuesday, after the resignation of his predecessor, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, whose exit was confirmed on the same day.
The Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, had said that President Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation after he submitted a letter where he attributed his resignation to family issue.
The appointment of Disu takes immediate effect, subject to confirmation by the Senate in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020.

Disu’s appointment comes 48 days before his mandatory retirement at age 60 or upon completion of 35 years of service, as stipulated in the 2024 amendment to the Police Act.
The amended Police Act allows Inspectors-General of Police to serve a four year tenure regardless of age.
Disu, a 59-year-old Lagos-born officer becomes Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector-General of Police.
