Tobi Amusan Lifts Another National Title

Tobi Amusa has again added to her winning records in women’s 100m at the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) National Trials at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.

In an exciting display to the fancy of thousands of fans, the 28-year-old Amusan finished ahead of Adaobi Tabugbo to clinch the first position with a winning time of 12.57s while the second position (Adaobi Tabugbo) finished in a time of 13.03s.

This victory has again established the preeminence of the young star in the women’s 100m race as she prepares for the far approaching World Athletics Championships slated for Tokyo, Japan, in September.

As Faith Osamuyi came third in a time of 13.36s, Gafar Badmus who took central position in men’s 400m national title finish ahead of Ezekiel Asuquo at a time of 45.71s. Ezekiel Asuquo finished second in a time of 46.29s while David Akhalu placed third in a time of 46.91s.

In another twist in the women’s 400m was the disqualification of Patience Okon-George in the final while African U-20 champion, Favour Onyah, emerged winner with a winning time of 52.69s. Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna followed behind in second and third positions respectively.

In the women’s 100m final however, Chioma Nweke displaced the former champion, Olayinka Olajide to claim a maiden national title after coasting to victory in 11.27s. Olajide ran 11.39s to pick second spot leaving Iyanuoluwa Bada in third position in 11.45s.
