Emergency rule was imposed on the state on March 18, 2025 at the height of the political crisis that emanated from the fallout between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
President Tinubu had thereafter announced in a broadcast, the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, for six months and appointed a sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) to oversee the affairs of the state for six months.
