An Officer of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Samuel Haruna has been set ablaze by his newly wedded wife after she bathed him with petrol and set him on fire.
According to the family source, the action which was triggered by a domestic dispute over alleged infidelity was said to have taken place at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak local government area of Akwa Ibom State.
A reliable source revealed that the couple who got married in a highly celebrated wedding in Mangu local government area of Plateau in April, 2025, were involved in a heated argument over some text messages the wife found on her husband (Haruna) which she believed were from another woman.
Family source revealed that in spite of the deceased’s denial of having any affair, the jealous wife decided to carry out this evil act while he was asleep.
A source from the barracks who spoke under anonymity said Lt. Haruna, who was also a medical doctor and a graduate of the University of Jos, was attached to the 6 Battalion Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) at the time of his demise.
The source said “The officer sustained severe burns and was immediately stabilised at the Military Reference Section (MRS) in the barracks before being evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further management.”.
Unfortunately according to the source, Haruna could not survive as he gave in to his injuries despite serious efforts by medical personnel to save his life.
The suspect has however, been arrested and is currently in custody while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
