Fresh Attack on Plateau Community Claims 8 Lives, Injures Many

Gunmen have attacked Gwon-Ajang community in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State and reportedly killed Eight persons with 10 others injured.

The attack was said to have occurred at about 10 p.m. on Sunday as the terrorists stormed the community during a birthday celebration and started shooting thereby causing great panic in the area.

The attack was officially disclosed on Monday by Rwang Tengwon, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM-A).

He confirmed that eight persons were killed, while more than 10 others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

He expressed concern over recent attack too many in the area and urged security agencies to do everything to put an end to violence in the area and alsobring the perpetrators to justice.

Already, injured victims have been move to a nearby health facilities, while security personnel were reportedly deployed to the area following the incident.

Lamenting over the attack, Bishop Iliya, said the victims gathered to celebrate the birthday of one of their members when the attackers came and shot at people on sight, leaving several persons dead while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“The people were gathered for a birthday celebration when the gunmen arrived and started shooting at everything in sight. It is a painful and unfortunate situation for our community,” he said.

Ads well, the traditional ruler of Timshat in Langtang South Local Government Area, Godwin Vonga, was on Sunday murdered by unknown gunmen along the Timshat-Mabudi Road.

He was attacked while returning home after dropping his children at school in neighbouring Mabudi town.

Residents of the community including the Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area, Hon. Nanfa Alhassan Nbin, have described Vonga as a respected leader and public servant.
