The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Lagos as the venue for the continent’s most prestigious football awards ceremony.

The event which is expected to bring together Africa’s top coaches, players, football administrators and other stakeholders, will be held at the newly transformed Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts,

As CAF is yet to announce the official date for the awards ceremony and the final list of award categories, the hosting of the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Nigeria in October, will further strengthening the country’s position in African football.

The last time Nigeria hosted the award ceremony was in 2016 when Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala was named Women’s Player of the Year and Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez won the Men’s Player of the Year award.

As only six Nigerian players have won the prestigious African Player of the Year award, the 2026 edition of the ceremony presents another opportunity for Nigeria football stars to add to this number.

In the months ahead, CAF will to release the date and the final award categories.

CAF Awards honour great achievements in African football across men and women competitions by recognising players, coaches, clubs and national teams.
