World Cup: England Beat France 6-4 in Third-Place as Spain Face Argentina in the Final

In the 2026 World Cup third-place playoff on Saturday, England beat France 6-4 after France were previously outplayed by Spain while England suffered defeat from Argentina

In the match between England and France on Saturday, Kylian Mbappe emerged as the leading scorer in World Cup history.

Also in the match, while Bukayo Saka grabbed a hat-trick, Jude Bellingham became the first English player to score seven goals at a single World Cup in a breathless match.

All is now set for the three-time champions Argentina to face European champions Spain in the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday.

As Spain and Argentina prepared for the battle in Sunday’s World Cup final in New Jersey, organizers said they were keeping a close eye on smoke from wildfires in Canada.

Meanwhile, Messi’s Argentina are bidding to emerge as the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win World Cup back-to-back, while Spain are trying to win another title after their maiden victory in 2010.

The organizers said they were monitoring closely, the smoke that has covered a large areas of the United States.

“There’s been discussion about it, and we have somebody with the National Weather Service that sits in FIFA headquarters there, so we’re monitoring closely,” Andrew Giuliani, White House World Cup task force executive director, told a briefing.

Importantly, as the largest World Cup in history reaches its climax in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, U.S. President Donald Trump will be among the over 80, 000 spectators expected.

Being the only game of the tournament that Trump has attended, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has also said she would attend the final after an invitation from the American president.
