As part of his ongoing consultations towards 2027 presidential election, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has visited former President Goodluck Jonathan in his house in Abuja.
He disclosed that his visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan, is directly connected to the preparations for 2027 general election

Speaking after their meeting, Obi disclosed that he visited Jonathan to consult him about the 2027 general elections in the interest of Nigeria.
According to him, their discussion was based on how to reposition Nigeria and explore how leaders can come together in the efforts to make the country better.

“We need to consult, especially someone like him who has served the country and understands governance. At a time like this, such consultations are important,” he said.
Confirming that he is seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi maintained that his engagements with former leaders were ongoing.

He revealed that he had earlier held similar meetings with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida because 2027 elections must not just be seen as another political exercise, but as a critical opportunity to re-write the history of Nigeria.
Reiterating his desire to see free, fair, and credible elections, Obi said his aim for visiting Jonathan was not for endorsement

“We are not here for endorsement. When the time comes and I emerge as a candidate, we can discuss that. For now, we are here to consult,” he said.
Among those in attendance were former Enugu State governor, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; former Imo State governor, Chief Achike Udenwa; former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; and Senators Ben Obi and Victor Umeh.
