A former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mimiko formally announced his departure from the party in a letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to the chairman of Ward 7 in Ondo West Local Government Area.

“I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026.

“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” he said.

However, the former governor under Labour Party, maintained that his decision was taken without animosity toward anyone.

Earlier, many of his loyalists decamped from the PDP and aligned with the current Governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Mimiko’s former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, who confirmed this development, said the resignation letter had been submitted but did not provide further details.
