Bandits have invaded a secondary school in Iluke, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, claiming the life of the vice principal and two others in their effort to kidnap students.

The bandits were said to have arrived on the morning of Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with the aim of kidnapping students writing their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In the attack, Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Gani, Anifowose, was killed alongside two other persons.

An eyewitness account said that troops of the Nigerian Army at Suku-Kiri Bunu, a nearby community, responded rapidly to the distress call and arrived in Iluke Bunu, successfully aborting what could have resulted in the mass abduction of students and staff.
While residents have continued to express concerns over the growing insecurity in the area, sources close to the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area have confirmed the attack,

As attackers fled the scene, reports show that some residents are still missing, raising concerns that additional victims may have been abducted or displaced during the attack.
